Czech Opera: from Smetana to Martinu

As part of the musical nationalism that spread through 19th-century Europe, opera was a key factor in Czech independence. During this course we explore some of the most influential operas of the era: from Smetana’s The Bartered Bride and Dvorak’s Rusalka, to the dramatic works of Janacek and Martinu.
